Pre‑Registration Notice for Graduate Students – Fall 2026

This notice summarizes everything you need to know for Fall 2026 pre‑registration.

Where to Find Course and Requirement Information

Use Courses@Brown for real-time course info and to register.

Pre‑Registration Overview

  • Pre‑registration is mandatory for all all graduate students continuing in the fall 2026 semester
  • Check with your DGS or department to review which courses you should register for. Ph.D. students who have fulfilled all course requirements should, at minimum, register for the Thesis Prep (2990) course or directed reading/research in your department.
  • Before registering, check Courses@Brown for financial or other holds.
  • Pre-registration for the fall 2026 term for all continuing residential Graduate students (including PRIME and Cybersecurity) will begin on Tuesday, April 14th at 12 p.m. EDT

Tip: Log in at least 5 minutes before your timeslot. After submitting courses, don’t refresh your browser—your requests will process in a queue.

  • Registration closes Tuesday, April 21 at 5 p.m. EDT.

Independent Study/Research

If you are doing independent study or research, you must register for those credits in Courses@Brown. Request overrides through Courses@Brown, unless the course notes specify a different process.

Restrictions and Instructor Overrides

  • Courses with prerequisites, program restrictions, or instructor-permission requirements will only allow eligible students to enroll.
  • Courses with limited seats close automatically once full.
  • You may not register for overlapping courses; instructors cannot override time conflicts.

If you need an override:

  • Follow instructions in the course description if provided.
  • Otherwise, request the override directly in Courses@Brown when adding the course to your cart.

An approved override does NOT automatically register you; you must still complete registration once the override is granted.

Automated Registration Tools Are Prohibited

Using automated tools or scripts to register is a violation of University policy and is actually counterproductive as it will likely result in your Banner account being locked for the entire semester, which cannot be undone and thus you will actually be at a disadvantage!
